I have come to believe that all living beings have a soul and that these souls are connected, which some might think a huge “leap of faith” for someone who was an atheist until I was 66 years old. Yesterday, the soul of my very best friend, Forbes, left his little body – after succumbing to a virulent form of canine cancer just 2 weeks after it appeared without warning.
Victoria and I don’t use terms like “put down” or “euthanize”; we prefer to believe that we merely allowed Forbes to move on from his obligation to love and take care of us. I am certain that most (perhaps all) of you have suffered a loss like ours. Victoria and I would like to share the following with you:

At the rising of the sun and at its going down
We will remember him.
At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter
We will remember him.
At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring
We will remember him.
At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer
We will remember him.
At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn
We will remember him.
At the beginning of the year and when it ends
We will remember him.
When we are weary and in need of strength
We will remember him.
When we feel down and need support
We will remember him.
When we feel joy and want to share
We will remember him.
When we dream of friends departed
We will remember him.
When we think of love unending
We will remember him.
As long as we live, he too will live as part of us, and
We will remember him.
Yes, we will remember Forbes, on this day, tomorrow, forever, eternally.
